Tereza Elena Šínvá

Happy birthday to Czechia’s sprint hurdler Tereza Elena Šínová, who broke thirteen seconds for the first time this June and coaches the teenagers at her own club in between races.

On 4 June at the Liese Prokop Memorial in St. Pölten, Tereza ran 12.92 over the 100m hurdles. It was the first sub-thirteen of her career, and the Czech federation posted it with the line you can never have too much good news. In February she had won the Czech indoor 60m hurdles title at Ostrava in 8.09, her third national indoor championship. She took bronze at the Cyprus International in Limassol, silver at Nové Město, raced the Zlátá tretra in Ostrava on the Continental Tour, and on 25 July took the silver medal over 100m hurdles at the Czech Championships in Plzeň.

Behind that is one of the longest medal records in Czech athletics. Roughly forty national medals across every age group she has passed through, three senior indoor titles, and **two Czech national records** that almost nobody knows about, because they are not in the hurdles: the Czech U20 indoor pentathlon record of 4177, and the Czech U18 indoor pentathlon record of 4130. She was a national-record-setting multi-eventer before she was a hurdler. She was eighth in the 100m hurdles final at the European U20 Championships and seventh in the final at the World University Games in Chengdu.

And then there is everything else she does. Tereza holds a coaching licence and coaches the U18 and U20 groups at Atletika Jižní Město in Prague, the same club she competes for. She is a master’s student at the Palestra college of physical education in Prague. She co-hosts a podcast called Na vlně dopaminu with Lukáš, about running, sport and healthy living.
