Snizhana Dzhychko

Happy birthday to Ukraine’s sprinter Snizhana Dzhychko, who won the youth national title and took senior national silver in the very same race.

At the Ukrainian Championships in Lviv in July, Snizhana ran 23.99 over 200m. That single run did four things at once. It was a personal best, it won her the youth title, it put her on the senior national podium in silver, and it met the Master of Sport of Ukraine standard. Standing on a senior podium is one thing. Doing it, off your own fastest time, is another. Indoors in February she had already run 7.68 over 60m in Kyiv, another personal best, and in June she was part of a Ukrainian 4x100m squad that ran 45.80.

She comes from Kalush, in the Ivano-Frankivsk region, came up through the Kalush youth sports school under her coach Oksana Kukhniy, and now studies at the physical education college in Ivano-Frankivsk. One town, one coach, one long climb to a senior national medal,

Ukrainian sprinting is in good hands.
