HHappy birthday to Germany’s Bavarian jumps champion Sophie Loibl, who gets to celebrate a birthday that closes out her U20 career the right way — as a titleholder. Last summer Sophie won the Bavarian U20 high jump championship in Hösbach, capping her junior years with gold, and this season she’s taken on a new chapter: a move to LG Stadtwerke München and a full slate across the horizontal and vertical jumps.

Athletes who compete across high jump, long jump and triple jump are solving three different physics problems with one body — speed, spring and spatial control all at once. That versatility is the foundation everything else gets built on, and Sophie is laying hers in one of Germany’s deepest athletics regions.
