Happy birthday to LSU freshman sensation Skyler Franklin — the fastest under-20 400m runner in the world this year. In May, Skyler scorched a 50.83 personal best at the NCAA East preliminaries to punch her ticket to the national championships at Hayward Field, then anchored LSU’s 4×400 there too for good measure. It’s the latest chapter in a career that has read like a highlight reel from the start: the fastest high school sophomore in American history, Jamaican U20 400m champion (she holds dual citizenship and chose to represent Jamaica), second on the Jamaican U20 all-time list behind a mark from 1987, and an All-American more than forty times over before she could drive.
