Happy monumental birthday to Colombia’s Sara Manuela Cuesta, from Medellín — and what a moment to turn 18. Just weeks ago in Lima, Sara ran Colombia to Iberoamerican U20 gold in the 4x400m relay and added mixed-relay bronze, while lowering her own 400m best to 54.18 along the way.

Two weeks ago at the National U20 Championships in Cali, she went and broke a Colombian record –anchoring Antioquia’s mixed 4×100 to gold in 44.15, faster than the national team had ever run it.
And the best birthday gift is already booked: Sara has qualified for the World U20 Championships in Eugene, Oregon, just weeks from now, her times fast enough to meet World Athletics’ own standard.

An birthday with a world championship on the calendar is the kind most athletes only dream about.
