Two national U20 records in one day, both in the same event.

Zanté van der Merwe and Isabella Gunter ran the mixed 4x400m relay heat in 3:22.12 for a South African U20 record and a place in the final. Then in the final, Davida Strong and Gunter went quicker still, 3:21.48 for a second national U20 record inside a few hours. Gunter ran both, and both times the record moved. Sixth in a World Championships final, and the SA U20 mark now sits lower than it did this morning.

Ashlynn Norman is in the long jump final. 6.11m (+1.1) in qualifying, one of only twelve women in the world to get through, with Oluchi Abelwe Ndubueze reaching 5.76m.

Rume Burger (@rumeburger) ran 11.56 to advance from her 100m heat and came back to run 11.53 in the semi-final, going quicker in the deeper round. Faith Konde (faith_konde) ran 11.85 in her heat.

In the discus, Chris-Mari Nel threw 50.98m for a personal best and Mila Ueckermann reached 50.50m. Two South African throwers on a World Championships circle, and one of them left it with a lifetime best.

Over 800m, Carise van Rooyen (@carise_vr) advanced in 2:06.52 with Andrea Steynberg (@andreasteynberg_07) running 2:13.29. Ansume de Beer was in the pole vault field.
