Happy birthday to Spanish long-jump standout Olaia Gisela Becerril Álvarez, who is putting together another remarkably consistent season near the top of Spanish women’s jumping. Olaia won the Galician indoor title at 6.18m, narrowly missed the Spanish championship final and then reached 6.31m outdoors in June, only two centimeters short of the personal best she established last year. Her career has already included three collegiate victories in one American outdoor season, an NCAA regional appearance and All-Sun Belt honors. After returning home to Vigo, she has continued proving that steady, intelligent development can be every bit as impressive as one sudden breakthrough.
