Happy birthday to Australia’s sprinter Natalie Otway, a Queensland quarter-miler with genuine range from 60m all the way out to the 400.

Natalie opened this year at the Cathy Freeman Shield in Queensland, running 7.68 over 60m in an Open field of forty-four, and a week later she was into the semi-finals of the 200m at the Queensland State Championships, having gone 24.28 with a legal wind in the prelims. Her 2026 season bests now read 7.68, 12.00, 24.14 and 55.29 across four distances — and covering that much of the sprint spectrum in one season is unusual. Most sprinters pick a lane and stay in it. She is quick enough at 60m to make a state final and durable enough to hold a 400. Her lifetime bests sit at 11.75 and 23.97, and she has run a 4x400m mixed relay in 3:22.80 in Perth.

She races for Ekibin Athletics Club in Brisbane, one of the busiest clubs in a state that produces a disproportionate share of Australian sprinting, and she has been competing at Open level in Queensland for years now — which in practice means lining up against national-team athletes at every state meet and simply getting on with it.

She has also built something outside the track. She has ambassador deals with two brands and her own discount codes with both, and her story highlights carry a whole content lane around training and food alongside the racing. Athletes who can bring their own audience are increasingly the ones who get supported, and she has done that work herself. Her bio sums up the whole approach in six words: being the best version of me.

Happy birthday, Natalie! Wishing you a cracker of a year ahead — good health, good luck and plenty more fast ones. Have a ripper of a day! 🎂🎁🎉🫶🫶🇦🇺
