Happy birthday to Spain’s Lucía Rodríguez Carreras, an athlete from Colmenar Viejo who, in the truest sense of the phrase, has done it all: sprints, hurdles, high jump, long jump, triple jump, shot put, javelin, pentathlon, relays, and as of last month, her first ever 10k road race.

Her competitive record stretches back to when she was 12, first lining up for CD Gredos San Diego at youth meets across the Madrid federation. Most athletes narrow down early — pick a lane, chase a number, specialize before they’ve finished growing. Lucía’s career reads the opposite way. Across more than a decade she has actually competed in nearly every discipline the sport offers, moving through the full range of what track and field asks of a body: speed, technique over barriers, height, distance, power, and now endurance on the open road. That’s the story of an athlete who takes on ALL challenges, bar none, fearing nothing. How many people like that do you know? Not many.

Last month, she added that 10km to the list, racing the KLM Carrera Norte vs. Sur through the streets of Madrid — anytime, anything, anyplace, anywhere; as we say in English, the lady just BRINGS IT. Young athletes pay attention: there are always new goals and adventures and challenges out there…as long as you’re willing to keep bringing it!
