Happy birthday to Germany’s Lilly Empl, a heptathlete currently ranked inside the world’s top 400 in the heptathlon and top 700 in both the 100m hurdles and long jump.
This year, Lilly has run a 60m hurdles best of 8.44 in January and matched a 100m hurdles best of 13.72 last summer, while also adding a long jump best of 5.98m — all the pieces a heptathlete needs, each one individually good enough to carry its own world ranking. Her IG bio calls it “a life in motion,” which tracks for someone who’s genuinely competitive across four or more separate disciplines in the same career.
