Laura Lokotar
Happy birthday to Estonia’s Laura Lokotar, who won her first senior national title this March.
On 1 March at the Estonian Indoor Championships in Tallinn, Laura won the long jump with 6.10m. It is her first senior national title, and it came after a run of near misses: silver at the Estonian Championships in 2025 with 6.30m, and before that a stack of age-group honours including the U20 heptathlon title with 5,385 points and a senior pentathlon silver won at seventeen. She has a long jump best of 6.42m, and this season she has won at Tartu, at the Harjumaa Championships and at the Margus Keerma Memorial in Kuusalu.
She came to the long jump the long way round, through combined events, which is why she is dangerous at more than one thing. Her own list of favourites is high jump, long jump and hurdles, and she has scored in the heptathlon and the pentathlon at national level. Combined-events athletes who specialise late tend to bring something specialists never acquire: a jumper who has also had to run an 800m at the end of a two-day competition has a different relationship with discomfort.
Her household is a small Estonian athletics institution. Her sister Johanna is also a sprinter and jumper, coached by the same man, and has qualified for the European U18 Championships. At the Kose parish sports awards for 2024, Laura was named Sportswoman of the Year, Johanna was named Young Sportswoman of the Year, and their coach Sander Prits was named Coach of the Year. Their mother was an athlete too. Laura’s line about that is the best one she has given: her original goal was to beat her mother’s records, and that succeeded quickly.
She jumps for KJK Kose 2000, holds a BA in sport sciences, and runs a genuine second career alongside the track in fashion, beauty and lifestyle content.
Palju õnne sünnipäevaks, Laura! Soovin sulle õnne, tervist ja palju kordaminekuid, ja veel palju sentimeetreid juurde. Laura, elagu! 🎂🎁🎉🫶🫶🇪🇪
