🇦🇺 TEAM AUSTRALIA, DAY 1 AT THE WORLD U20 CHAMPIONSHIPS IN EUGENE

Bronze medal and an Australian U20 record. Xanthee Watts and Charlotte McAuliffe ran their legs of the mixed 4x400m relay as Australia took third in the final in 3:18.45, breaking the Australian U20 record. They had qualified second fastest in the morning with a season best of 3:19.59, then went out and improved it again when a medal was on the line. That is championship racing.

Jamison Harding cleared 4.10m in the pole vault to make the final, one of thirteen women in the world to get through a qualifying round where every single one of them ended up level on the same height. Khushnoor Rangi cleared 3.80m in the same competition.

In the 100m, Maya Taber (mayaataber) ran 11.39 to take third in her heat, then 11.56 in the semi-finals. Zara Hagan (@zara__hagan) won her heat outright in 11.40 and ran 11.72 in her semi. Two Australians in a World Championships 100m semi-final.

Over 800m, Ivy Boothroyd (@ivyboothroydrunning_) was outstanding, 2:04.67 for second in her heat and the sixth fastest time of the round, with Emma Fryga (__emmafryga__) right behind her in 2:05.08.

In the discus, Chelsy Wayne threw 49.96m and Riley-Jay Henry-Purcell 48.26m.
