Happy birthday to Mexico’s Genesis Flores Chavarin, an up and coming sprinter from Baja California Sur who is ranked nationally in two events.

Genesis appears on Mexico’s 2025 national rankings at 10.31 over 80m and 19.26 over 150m — the shorter sprint distances the sub-16 category runs, and the ones that quietly build everything that comes after. Landing on a national ranking list at all means racing the clock in a country of 130 million people, which is a considerably harder room than most athletes her age ever step into.

Sixteen closes out Genesis’s time in the sub-16 category and moves her into the next one, where the distances stretch out and the fields get deeper.
