Daniela Medrano

Happy birthday to Peru’s heptathlete Daniela Medrano, who has already stood on a senior continental podium in the most demanding event on the programme.

In December, at the Bolivarian Games in Lima, Daniela took the heptathlon silver medal. She did it at the VIDENA, her own home track, which is the version of a breakthrough every athlete quietly hopes for. Two months earlier she had won the national U20 heptathlon title with 4,337 points, and her bio carries national heptathlon golds at U20, U23 and Absoluto level along with six selections for Peru. That is a lot of hardware for someone who has only just finished being a junior.

The 2026 season has been about sharpening the individual weapons inside the seven. She has run 14.75 over the 100m hurdles and 25.63 for 200m, both lifetime bests, and she carried that form into the Ibero-American U20 Championships in Lima in June. In a heptathlon, hurdles speed and 200m speed are the two events that pay you twice, because they set up everything that follows.

Daniela trains with Marcon Athletic Club, and the arithmetic here is simple and exciting. Heptathletes generally peak in their mid to late twenties, once the throws and the 800m catch up with the speed. She has a continental silver already banked, and the seven events have barely started giving her what they owe.
