Asteria Uzo Limai

Happy birthday to Belarus’s Olympian Asteria Uzo Limai, who throughout her unforgettable career carried her country’s baton in the 4x400m relay at the Tokyo Olympics and did so much more. Asteria announced herself early, taking silver in the 4×400 at the European U20 Championships in a Belarusian U20 record, and she’s since stacked up two national indoor titles with a 400m range that has taken her under 54 seconds indoors.

Belarusian classic poetry immortalized the weavers of Slutsk — women who threaded cornflowers into cloth of gold. There’s an echo of that craft in a well-run 4×400: four runners weaving individual laps into one golden result, and Asteria has spent her career mastering exactly that art.
