Sarah Muñoz

Happy birthday to Colombia’s Sarah Muñoz Bucheli, a national record holder who won a national title at fifteen.

October last year, Bogotá: Sarah won the 800m at the Colombian U20 National Championships. She was fifteen, winning a title in an age group that runs up to nineteen. Then in April this year she went to Panama with the Colombian team for the South American Youth Games, and came home with a silver medal in the 4x400m relay and her name on the Colombian U18 national record for the event.

Before any of that she had already set a Colombian national record over 400m flat in 2025. She has 56.63 to her name over one lap and has since taken her 800m down to 2:14.61, and that 400-800 combination is the most useful thing a young runner can own: it means she has real speed and can carry it too, which leaves every door in the event programme open.

She races for Bogotá, and she has a national record, a national title, a South American medal and a share of a second national record. Not many people have all four at any age.
