Rori Lowe

Happy birthday to Honduras’ sprinter Rori Lowe, who last September walked into a World Championships stadium in Tokyo as the entire Honduran athletics team.

Not the fastest of the Honduran team. The team. Honduras sent one athlete to the 2025 World Athletics Championships, and Rori ran 11.93 in her 100m heat carrying a nation’s flag by herself. A month earlier she had taken the 100m silver at the Central American Championships in Nicaragua in 11.70, and she was part of the Honduran 4x100m squad that ran 48.25 at the same meet.

The foundation was laid at Florida A&M, and the 2024 conference championships were a full afternoon’s work: gold in the 4x400m in 3:40.17, silver in the 4x100m and bronze in the 100m in 11.55. She qualified for the NCAA East Preliminary, she made the Commissioner’s Honor Roll, and her lifetime bests of 11.42 and 23.80 both came in the same meet in May 2024, which tells you she is one of those sprinters who shows up on the right day.

Bronx-raised, FAMU-made, and Honduran when it counts. There is a particular kind of nerve required to be a country’s only entrant at a world championship, with nobody in the warm-up area wearing your colours. Rori has it, and the line in her bio is the whole plan: be the 1%.
