Anna Cerovska

Who else saw Czechia’s Anna Cerovská light up the track in the 400m yesterday in the Kladno meet? She won the local heat with a 54.85 that would’ve actually beaten at least one runner in the A heat. Extremely impressive – great work, Anna! Crazy for someone who just turned 17 a couple weeks ago.

(If you’re new to international track: when a meet takes place in a smaller country, they often run one heat with the highest-ranked athletes globally, then another heat showcasing local runners who are excellent athletes but not as highly ranked internationally). When there aren’t enough local runners to make a full heat, sometimes they’ll just add them to the lineup against the top-ranked runners. An example of this was the Canarias Invitational last month in Spain’s Canary Islands, where we got to see runners we wouldn’t otherwise get to see very often, like Andrea Mereles @aaandrealopez, Ines Castellano @inessitta_87, Lucia Morera @luciaamoreraa and Carla Eyerusalem @jeryhodgson_ )
