Dasha Semenova

Happy birthday to Russia’s track athlete Dasha Semenova, a KMC in athletics who splits her life between Moscow and Nizhny Novgorod and has never once let go of where she started.

Dasha came up through the Nizhny Novgorod regional programme and the region’s Olympic Reserve school, then went and took a degree at the Volga State University of Physical Culture and Sports, graduating in 2024. That is an athlete who decided to understand the sport from the inside as well as compete in it, and it is a choice that tends to pay out over decades rather than seasons.

She is from Vorsma, a small town in the Nizhny Novgorod region, and she keeps a corner of her own account permanently set aside for it. Athletes who move to Moscow and quietly stop mentioning home are common. Athletes who put it in their highlights are not.

She also plays a serious amount of padel, which is a genuinely smart second sport for a track athlete: short accelerations, changes of direction and reaction time, and none of the pounding.
