Happy birthday to Poland’s sprint star Ewa Swoboda, European Indoor champion, World Indoor Championships silver medalist, and the fastest Polish woman ever clocked in the 60m — holder of a national record of 6.98 seconds set at the 2024 World Indoor Championships in Glasgow. And, in our humble opinion, the single global face of track and field, period.

Ewa is what happens when a sprinter finds her event. The indoor 60m is perhaps the most unforgiving race in all of athletics: no build-up, no curve, no recovery period, just six seconds that either go exactly the way you planned them or they don’t. She has broken the seven-second barrier in multiple indoor seasons now, including this past winter at the Polish Indoor Championships, and shows no indication of having found the ceiling of what those six seconds can hold. Outdoors, her 2026 season is already underway with a 10.99 run in Warsaw, pressing against a 100m personal best of 10.94, and the question of where her outdoor ceiling actually sits is very much alive.

What makes following Ewa particularly worthwhile is the combination of genuine world-class competitive credentials — the European Indoor title in Glasgow in 2019, the World Indoor silver, multiple European Championships medals — and a personality that has made her genuinely one of the sport’s most visible and followed athletes. She has earned it.
