Nyajima Jock

Happy birthday to Australia’s Nyajima Jock, a Ballarat sprinter who is currently ranked #220 in the world and #2 in the entire country in the women’s 200m.

This year, Nyajima finished second at the Australian Athletics Championships in Sydney, missing gold in the 200m final by just two hundredths of a second in a time of 23.28. That result came on the back of a season that started with a hamstring injury — she came back from it to break the Ballarat 400m record outright, running 55.03 in her return to the track. Her recognition hasn’t stopped at results either: she was just awarded the Neville Sillitoe Foundation scholarship for 2026, a grant reserved for some of the country’s most promising emerging talent, covering the travel and equipment costs that come with chasing marks at the national level. She’s also the cousin of Olympian Yual Reath, putting real sprinting pedigree in the family.

With a national top-2 ranking, a career-best season despite injury, and a scholarship that’s specifically betting on where she’s headed next, Nyajima looks like an athlete on the way up rather than one who’s arrived.
