Happy birthday to Russia’s Natalya Spiridonova, a World U20 champion currently ranked #43 in the world in the high jump.

Natalya has cleared 2.00m. That is the number every high jumper measures a career against, and the list of women who have ever done it is short enough to be worth knowing by name. She reached it off a junior career that produced a world title plus both a silver and a bronze at the European U20 Championships, and she has since added two national indoor titles. A 6.30m long jump best sits on her profile as well, which tends to be what happens when the raw athleticism underneath is real.
