Jessica Kähärä

Happy birthday to Finland’s Jessica Kähärä, a three-time European Championships medallist and a Finnish national champion.

Jessica has medalled at European Championships in two separate age groups: silver and bronze at U18, then bronze at U23. She also holds a share of the Finnish U20 high jump record at 1.90m. Her personal bests then run straight across the field-and-hurdles map — 6.68m in the long jump, 13.87m in the triple jump, 13.30 over the 100m hurdles and 8.28 over the 60m hurdles indoors. That is five events, each at a level most athletes would be pleased to reach in one, and it takes an unusual kind of athlete to be genuinely competitive in a horizontal jump, a vertical jump and two hurdles distances at the same time.
