Stella Moizzi

Happy birthday to Italy’s sprinter Stella Moizzi, who has raced for the same club since she was eleven years old.

Stella went to the Italian U23 Championships in Molfetta in July and equalled her 200m personal best of 24.21 there, one of six athletes from the province of Lecco at those championships. A month earlier she had been on the podium at the Trackfam meeting in Meda, second over 200m in 24.43. Her indoor season produced 7.67 over 60m at Ancona in February, another lifetime best, and she holds an 11.79 over 100m.

The number that says the most about her, though, is 2016. That is the year Stella first registered with Atletica Lecco Colombo Costruzioni, as an eleven-year-old in the Ragazzi category, and she has been with them ever since, all the way up through to Promesse. A decade at one club, in a sport where athletes move constantly, is its own kind of achievement, and Lecco have had the return on it. She won the Lombardy regional U23 200m title in Busto Arsizio, and won the 100m outright at the Challenge Assoluto in Conegliano to qualify for the Italian Absolute Championships.

She is from Bellagio, at the fork of Lake Como, on the branch of the lake Manzoni chose to open the most famous novel in the Italian language. A decade of her training has happened along that shoreline, and she studies at the University of Bergamo alongside it.
