Salome Hüsler

Happy birthday to Switzerland’s 400m hurdler Salome Hüsler, who ran one of the most consequential legs of her country’s recent relay history.

Hüsler has a personal best of 55.92 over the 400m hurdles, and her national championship record is excellent: silver among the Swiss elite in 2024, bronze in 2023, and a U23 national title. In an event that punishes the smallest error in stride pattern over 400 metres and ten barriers, that is a run of results built on technical consistency rather than luck.

Her biggest contribution came at the World Relays in Guangzhou, where she ran the leg that qualified Switzerland for the World Championships in Tokyo. Qualifying your country for a global championship is a permanent line in the national record — a whole team went to Tokyo because of what she did on that leg.
